Early Bird Gets the Views
Day 7: Bergen
Today was another gorgeous day in Bergen, so I had to take advantage before the rain rolls in for the weekend. I was even up early in an attempt to beat the cruise ship tourists to the places I wanted to go.
Before sightseeing, I set off on a quick run. I felt like I was in need of some semblance of my normal routine, and it definitely helped! It was either that, or the coffee I had after! But, on my run, I stopped to take a few quick pictures of Bryggen, without all of the tourists. My goal for the day was to avoid the crowds! I was absolutely successful!

After that, I took the Funicular up to the top of Mount Fløyen. Let me tell you, the view was breathtaking!!

And, while we were up there, Magnus and I met a new friend!

Our next stop was the Fantoft Stave Church! It’s completely made out of wood, and looks like it’s straight out of a fairy tale!

Next up: Bergenhus Fortress – one of the oldest and most preserved castles in Norway

And to think, all of that was done before noon!
Continuing on with taking complete advantage of the perfect weather, we went up in the Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret tower that gives you 360° views of the Bryggen area. Note: if you’re ever there, even if you’re not staying at the hotel, just ask to go up in the tower. They’re happy to let you as long as you aren’t with a large group.

Our final stop of the day was to Gamle Bergen (Old Town Bergen) which is a replica of how Bergen used to be, full of colorful, wooden buildings on cobblestone streets.

After a full day of sightseeing, we had reindeer filet for dinner! It was so good! Lean like deer and elk, but a very mild flavor like beef!

It’s supposed to rain for the weekend here, so I’m not sure what’s in store just yet. Likely I will stick to museums and shopping if the weather is too bad!
