So Long Soggy Bergen

Day 9: Bergen

Today was my last day in Bergen, and Norway for that matter. I’m off to Iceland tomorrow morning for the remainder of my trip, so I had to make the most of today despite the rain again. And, let me tell you, I was mistaken in thinking yesterday was wet. Today was a completely different beast! We still had a fun day though!

Today was also a national holiday for Norway, Whit Sunday (the celebration of Pentecost), so it was interesting navigating what was and wasn’t open. Tomorrow is also a holiday, Whit Monday (Pentecost Monday).

Anyways, today we started out at the Norges Fiskerimuseum (Norwegian Fisheries Museum). It was a really neat, completely interactive museum!

After the museum, we paid a visit to the Bergen Domkirke (Bergen Cathedral). Now, I’m not sure I was supposed to go in as online it said it was closed, but other tourists were going in at the end of a service, so I took advantage as well!

Our next stop was the Lepramuseet at St. Jørgen’s Hospital (Leprosy Museum). It’s a preserved hospital environment from the 18th century and details the history of leprosy, including its history in Norway, the hospital, and the famous Norwegian contributions to leprosy research. It was so fascinating!! Warning: if you’re squeamish, scroll past the next pictures!

After so final shopping, we went up to the old fire station near the Bryggen area. By then it was pouring, so it made for some fun pictures!

It must be raining hard if you can see the drops in the picture!

I called it a day after that to head back to my room to repack my things (a chore in and of itself). However, remember this area from my first day in Bergen? Check it out today with all the rain. You can see most of the mountain!

I’m a bit sad my time in Norway is coming to an end as it’s been such an amazing adventure, full of incredible memories and experiences, but I’m very excited to see what Iceland has to offer!

Oh! But before I sign off until next time, check out my favorite street art from Bergen! I’m telling you, they take this shit seriously here, and it’s so cool!
