Wandering Bergen

Day 6: Bergen

It was another really early morning today. I’m not sure what the hell I was thinking when I planned all of this, but oh well. I had to catch a bus at 5:50am that would take me to the ferry from Stavanger to Bergen. The ship was massive. It had 9 floors, the lower 3 levels were car decks, the upper levels were cabins, and the middle levels were comprised of restaurants, lounges, bars, a casino, shopping, and sitting areas. Talk about cruising in style! It reminded me of what a cruise ship must be like.

On the ferry, I really didn’t do much other than read as the stores weren’t open until later (I’m really not sure how that works…), and there were only so many times you could wander the ship or outside deck. The scenery was really neat along the way. At one point, we passed through a thunderstorm, and I somehow managed to snap this picture (see the lightning on the far left side?).

Once in Bergen, I got checked into my hotel, and had to change because it was finally hot outside! I got to spend the afternoon in shorts and sandals! However, being one of the wettest cities in Europe, it inevitably had to rain this evening, and likely will rain all day Saturday and Sunday. No worries though, that won’t stop the adventure!

I spent most of the day just wandering through the city. I didn’t have a plan, which isn’t like me, and I was really indecisive about what I wanted to do or see. You can see the highlights below!

Lille Lungegårdsvann – a small lake in the center of Bergen
Mount Fløyen is in the background

The Bergen Fish Market
Make your selection, and they’ll cook it for you right there!

Bryggen
St. Mary’s Church
We tried reindeer sausage (minus the bun, of course). It was really good!
We also had a shrimp skewer, grilled right in front of us!

St. John’s Church
Museum of Natural History

St. Jakob’s Church

I’m working on a plan for tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to take full advantage of the forecasted beautiful weather in this beautiful city! Stay tuned!
