After a Quick Run

What I Think About While Running

I call myself a runner. I’m not a super good runner [I’m getting better though!], and I don’t run marathons or anything like that [maybe one day], but I do it, sometimes even in questionable weather. It keeps me active, and I do like how I feel when I’m done. But, seriously, some days it’s so hard to focus on running. You need something to keep your attention [hello Netflix at the gym!], or it’s going to be the most painful few miles ever, especially if you’re running on a treadmill like I have to in the winter.

On days like that, here’s a sneak peak into what I think about:

  1. What an awesome day for a run!
  2. This sucks.
  3. How long have I been running? A year?
  4. Only 3 minutes?!
  5. OK, I must be 1/2 way done now.
  6. Shit, I haven’t even hit a mile!
  7. Alright, stay focused. What am I going to do when I get home?
  8. I’m running 3 miles, so I could probably have a few glasses of wine!
  9. I should probably have some cheese with that too.
  10. You can’t have cheese without salami.
  11. Honestly, why do I run?
  12. I don’t actually enjoy it.
  13. I’m never running again.
  14. Why do so many people enjoy running?
  15. OK, almost done now! Should I shower before wine?
  16. Yep, definitely having wine first. I earned it.
  17. Whew, that was a good run!
  18. That was so good, in fact, that I’m going to try to run at least 50 miles per month! (Two months into the year so far, so good on this one!)
  19. Repeat!
